2005-2006 CANDLER CONCERTS AT EMORY INCLUDE WORLD PREMIERE, RARE PAIRING,
AND VARIED ARTISTS
Emory University recently announced that the 2005-2006 Flora Glenn
Candler Concert Series will include: the King’s Singers and Sarband
performing “Sacred Bridges”; Mark O’Connor’s
Hot Swing Trio; Evelyn Glennie, percussion; Osvaldo Golijov’s
“La Pasión según San Marcos”; Denyce Graves,
mezzo-soprano; the Rotterdam Philharmonic; and Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas
Zukerman, violins. For more than 30 years Emory’s Candler Series
endowment has enabled Emory to bring artists that are top in their field
to Atlanta. Discount series subscription packages can be purchased in
person at the Arts at Emory Box Office in the Schwartz Center or by
phone (404-727-5050) Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Single tickets go
on sale September 8, 2005.
“This year’s series has several exciting collaborations,”
says Bob McKay, Schwartz Center Director. “You will see Emory
collaborating with the Atlanta Symphony to bring Golijov’s ‘La
Pasión’. You will have the King’s Singers and Sarband
offering a program of psalms. The finale for the series is the rare
pairing of Itzhak Perlman and Pinchas Zukerman. The Schwartz Center
is one of only six venues on their nine-day duo violin tour.”
The subscription packages offer discounts of 20% off the purchase of
four or five concerts; 25% off the purchase of six concerts; and 30%
off the purchase of the full seven-concert series. Subscriptions can
range from $151 to $249 depending on the number of concerts ordered.
The reach of Emory’s Candler Series artists has been extended
by the addition in 2004 of the Emory Coca-Cola Artists-in-Residence
Series master classes, lecture/demonstrations, and outreach. An asterisk
in the following schedule indicates artists involved in residencies.
NOTE: All Candler Concerts listed below are held at 8 p.m. in the Schwartz
Center, Emerson Concert Hall (at the intersection of Clifton Road at
1700 North Decatur Road, Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia, 30322),
and have reserved seating. Free evening parking is available in most
campus decks.
