Art and Business Meet at Emory University ’s Goizueta Business School;
The Balser Art Collection Enhances Cultural Education

Ron and Barbara Balser are supporters of Emory’s Goizueta Business School , but they are firm believers that business knowledge alone does not make a leader. This belief, coupled with their appreciation of art, led them to establish the Balser Art Collection to provide Goizueta Business School’s students and visitors with a diversified cultural resource.

“One should be well-rounded in all forms of visual and performing arts,” Barbara explains. “An awareness and appreciation for art and embracing diversity are all part of one’s education. It’s more than just a degree ... it’s a lifestyle.”

The Balser Art Collection consists of more than 180 pieces of art including works by Braque, Chagall, Dali, Hockney, Lichtenstein, Oldenberg, Picasso, Rauschenberg, Tamayo, Lipchitz, Miro, Murakami and Warhol, and four granite-crafted benches of Ron Balser’s own original designs. In assembling the collection, the Balsers utilized both domestic and international resources.

The Balser Art Collection is permanently housed in The Goizueta Foundation Center for Research and Doctoral Education -- the recent addition to Emory’s Goizueta Business School ( 1300 Clifton Road, Atlanta, GA). The art is beautifully displayed throughout the five-story, 90,000 square foot facility that faces the Donna and Marvin Schwartz Center for Performing Arts.

There is no charge to view the art collection. The Goizueta Foundation Center for Research and Doctoral Education is generally open during normal business hours and when classes are in session.

Ron and Barbara are co-CEOs of Balser Companies and the parents of Laura Balser and Ginger Balser Reid, as well as the in-laws of Matthew D. Smith; Laura, Ginger and Matthew are alumni of Goizueta Business School. Barbara Balser has served on the Goizueta Business School Advisory Board since 1999. Balser Companies advises public and private companies on company-sponsored executive benefit plans designed to recruit, reward and retain management teams and help them reach their personal financial goals.

Emory University ’s Goizueta Business School is home to an Undergraduate degree program, a Two-year MBA, a One-year MBA, an Evening MBA, the W. Cliff Oxford Executive MBA (weekend and modular formats) and a Doctoral degree. The School also offers a portfolio of custom-designed executive education courses for major international corporations. The school’s mission is the development of principled leaders for global enterprise.
